The Rt. Rev. Brian K. Burgess

Bishop Burgess PicThe Rt. Rev. Brian K. Burgess was consecrated Twelfth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield on May 21, 2022.

Ordained a priest in 1999, he served parishes in the Dioceses of Southwest Florida, Louisiana and New Jersey.

Bishop Burgess attended seminary at The University of the South, graduating cum laude with a Master of Divinity degree. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Ball State University.

Bishop Burgess married his college sweetheart, Denise Lee (née Swing), and they have two grown children, Robert Kendall Burgess and Catherine Marian Burgess.

The Very Rev. Mark William Ohlemeier – Priest-in-Charge

Fr. Mark

Fr. Mark is a native Kansan and cradle Episcopalian, with a background in radio broadcasting and government relations prior to entering seminary. He received a Master of Divinity from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in May 2017; was made a deacon the following month; and then was ordained a priest in January 2018.  He served as the Curate/Assistant Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield, Missouri for four years before being called as Priest-in-Charge at St. George’s.  Father Mark and his wife, Kristie, were married in 2000, and their daughter, Hannah, currently attends Drury University in Springfield, MO.

Nancy S. Ypma – Director of Music and Organist 

NancyNancy Ypma, D.Mus., has been Director of Music and Organist at St. George’s for over 25 years. She received her BA in music from UCLA, and her Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees from Northwestern University.  She is Professor of Music at McKendree University and also Chair of the Division of Visual and Performing Arts. She is active in the St. Louis chapter of the American Guild of Organists and gives concerts. Nancy directs both the Adult Choir and the Choristers at St. George’s.

Community Service Commission – Coordinates outreach programs in the neighboring community; sponsors parish involvement in social issues such as the food pantry, food and clothing collections, blood drives, and more.

Fellowship Commission – This commission plans and coordinates church-wide gatherings and social activities to celebrate and enhance our life as a Christian community.

Liturgical Commission – Assists the rector in planning (liturgies) throughout the church year. The membership includes representatives from all the ministries that help with these liturgies.

Property Commission – Assists the junior warden in caring for the buildings and grounds of our parish.

Stewardship and Finance – Manages the parish finances, prepares and monitors the annual budget, ensures an annual audit and leads stewardship campaigns.

Spiritual Enrichment Commission – Plans renewal events, helps in the formation of prayer and study groups, and works with the Liturgical Commission to enrich the spiritual life of the parish.
