Welcome to St. George’s – We are glad you have chosen to worship with us today! Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.
SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR ALL AGES
Children and youth gather in the Chapel at 9:00 am to sing and share good news before moving to classes. Ages 3 thru 5th grade use Godly Play. Our teens’ lessons are prepared by Brian Maves.
The Rector’s Forum meets in the parish hall at 9:10, where Father Dale is teaching verse by verse through the Gospel of Mark. Bring your bibles and join us.
The Lambeth Bible Study, a second option for adults, meets in the conference room at 9:10. Everyone is welcome.
Annual Meeting Results: Lumley Bevineau, Tom Boschert, and Steve Skaff were elected to full terms on the Vestry, and Maryann Fernandez was elected to a one year term; Chuck Evans, Cindy Lynk, Brian Maves, Steve Skaff and Michelle Ziegler were elected as Diocesan Synod representatives; Cindy and Michelle will also serve as Deanery delegates. If you haven’t picked one up yet, there are copies of the Annual Report available in the narthex, and they are full of excellent reports from our various groups and ministries.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper this week – Join your parish family on Tuesday, February 9th, for traditional Shrove Tuesday pancakes and sausage in the Parish Hall between 5:30 – 7:00 pm. There is no cost, but donations are gratefully accepted.
Ash Wednesday services of the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Eucharist will be offered at 9:30 am and 7:00 pm this week. These are joint services with St. Mark. This year we have the Episcopal liturgy and music, and Pastor Brian will be the preacher.
Don’t forget to pick up your white chili this afternoon!
Deacon Jody will be in New Mexico February 6 – 11, and the parish office will be closed. The Food Pantry will be open!
New Bible Study – Joe & Carol Hooten will be leading another Tuesday night Bible study titled “Meeting the Spirit”. They will be using a ten week study written by Douglas Connelly, and will begin Shrove Tuesday, after the Pancake Supper, at 7:00 pm. To sign up, please call the office or call Joe Hooten at 567-9693.
Lenten Soup Suppers – Join us Thursday evenings in Lent for a simple supper of soup, salad, and bread at 6:00 pm in the Parish Hall, followed by a program at 6:45. This year we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Ralph McMichael, who will present our program, “The Body of Christ at Prayer.” The evening concludes at 8:00 pm.
Fr. McMichael has been an Episcopal priest for almost 35 years, and is currently serving at St. Andrew’s in Edwardsville. He has served as a seminary professor, dean of a diocesan school for ministry, canon for ministry formation, and in parish ministry. He is also the author of several books, and has written, taught, and lectured extensively on the history, theology, and practice of the Eucharist.
Titles of our study each week are: Feb. 18 – At Prayer; Feb. 25 – The Physical Body; March 3 – The Historical Body; March 10 – The Ecclesial Body; and March 17 – The Eucharistic Body.
There is no cost for the evening, but participants are asked to contribute what they would otherwise have spent for dinner. Proceeds will divided between Bethany Place and the Violence Prevention Shelter. Child care can be arranged if you contact the parish office and request it. And please sign up to bring a pot of soup and/or help with set-up and clean-up.
Save the dates – Please come and help with spring clean-up Saturday, March 19. We’ll rake up leaves and tidy up the grounds for Easter. On Saturday, April 2, we will address some of the extra projects around the property. Everyone is welcome!
All baptized persons are welcome to receive Communion. We believe this is Christ’s Body and Blood, according to Christ’s very promise, not “chip and dip”. Therefore, one appropriately receives the consecrated wafer on your hands (right hand over left) and raises it to your mouth, or receives it directly on your tongue. Then assist the chalice bearer in guiding the chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the host on your palm and the chalice bearer will pick it up, intinct it, and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.
Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.
Child Care is available for infants to age six from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.
Pastoral Emergencies after hours: Father Dale’s cell is 789-3723. Deacon Jody’s cell is 505-913-0375. The home number is 416-1074.
