Announcements – October 11, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s. We are glad you have chosen to worship with us today! Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

Children and youth gather in the Chapel at 9:00 am to sing and share good news before moving to classes. Ages 3 – 5th grade use Godly Play, and our teens’ lessons are prepared by Brian Maves.

The Rector’s Forum meets in the parish hall at 9:10.  Father Dale is teaching a verse by verse study of the Gospel of Mark. Bring your Bibles!  (Fr. Dale prefers NRSV.)

The Lambeth Bible Study, a meditative approach to scripture, is a second option for adults.  This group meets in the conference room.

Chili Cook-off results – We made 250 gallons of white chili (45 more than last year) and sold out by 6:15 pm Saturday.  After expenses are paid, we will have about $8,000 to send to FNCA!  Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this happen.

St. George’s will Host Special Reception – Bishop Elias and Lucy Chakupewa, from the Anglican Diocese of Tabora in Tanzania, will be with us this Thursday evening, October 15th. We are going to welcome them and our own Bishop Daniel Martins with a lovely reception in the parish hall at 6:00 pm – finger foods, wine, tea – all very Anglican! Bishop Elias will tell us a little about the Diocese of Tabora, and Lucy will have handmade items from Tanzania available for sale to help support their many ministries. Tabora is one of two of our companion Dioceses, and Chakupewas are here to be part of our Diocesan Synod, taking place next weekend.

Please pick up your 3rd quarter donation statements in the narthex.

Our Annual Diocesan Synod takes place this Friday and Saturday, October 16-17, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Jacksonville. Please keep our delegates in your prayers: Fr. Dale, Deacon Jody, John & Candi Hamill, Cindy Lynk, Steve Skaff, and Michelle Ziegler.

St. George’s is collecting items for Bethany Place during the month of October. Bethany Place is the largest non-profit, community based AIDS Service Organization in the Metro East, providing clients with the support they need to maintain the highest possible quality of life while teaching prevention through its education and outreach programs.  Items needed are personal grooming and hygiene items for both men and women. Please bring your donations in the narthex or the parish office through the end of October.  Thank you.

St. George’s Parish Family BONFIREThis is an event for all ages to get together and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship.  Join us Saturday, October 24, 5:00 pm at Toddhall. You are welcome to bring snacks or beverages to share. (Toasted marshmallows? S’mores? Cocoa? Cider?) Please RSVP! We need to know how many plan to attend and if you will be bringing snacks, so call the office at 233-6320 or e-mail

A memorial service for Father Emery Washington will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion (7401 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis) at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 17. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

If you would like unction (anointing with oil and prayer for healing by the priest), please indicate this at the altar rail.  If you wish, members of the Order of St. Luke are also available (near the votive candles on the Gospel side of the church) to offer additional healing prayer after you have received communion.

How to receive Communion – We believe this is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A gluten-free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Please assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the host on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.  All baptized persons are welcome to receive Communion.

Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.

Child Care is available for infants to age six from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.
