Announcements – August 30, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s. We are glad you have chosen to worship with us today! Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

Rally Day Breakfast and Carnival Today!  Join us in the Parish Hall at 9:00 am to kick-off a new program year.  There will be great food, lovely company, games for the kids, prizes, and much more!

Sunday School Classes for all Ages begin September 13

Children and youth gather in the Chapel at 9:00 am to sing and share good news before moving to classes. Ages 3 – 5th grade use Godly Play, and our teens’ lessons are prepared by Brian Maves. If you have not yet registered your child, please speak to Mae Scott!

The Rector’s Forum meets in the Parish Hall at 9:15. This year Father Dale will begin with an introduction to the New Testament, followed by a verse by verse study of the earliest Gospel – the Gospel of Mark. Bring your Bibles! (Fr. Dale prefers the NRSV.)

The Lambeth Bible Study, an experiential and meditative approach to scripture, is a second option for adults.  This group meets in the Conference Room at 9:15 each Sunday, and everyone is welcome.

St. George’s Choirs – Rehearsals resume September 9. Choristers is for children in 2nd through 7th grade, with rehearsals on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.  The children learn to sing but also learn about St. George, the church, and how to read music.  The Adult Choir welcomes high school students and adults of all ages, and rehearses Wednesdays from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.  For more information, please speak to Director of Music Nancy Ypma.

Food Pantry – Donations are welcome any time! Canned meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables, and dry goods such as cereal,  pasta, rice and beans are always needed. You may bring donations to church on Sunday, or to the office during the week. Thank you!

Jr. Warden Candi Hamill’s free Yoga Class resumes September 1st.  Please note the change of day, with the group now meeting Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 pm in the parish hall.  This is a beginning level class, and all parishioners are welcome. Please contact Candi (479-739-4917) and let her know if you hope to attend so that she can plan accordingly.

Lutheran School of Theology Course – Fr. Sean Martin, President of Aquinas Institute of Theology and a New Testament scholar and educator, will teach a four session course called “The Pastoral Epistles: Creating Christian Community” on four consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning September 23rd.  The classes will take place in St. George’s parish hall from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. Tuition is $64.  For more information and to register visit or call the registrar at 314-918-2558.

Belleville’s annual Chili Cook-Off is October 2 – 3, and we need volunteers to help cook tons of turkey in the parish kitchen Wednesday afternoons in September and to help in the booth downtown when our famous white chili is ready to sell. Sign-up sheets are posted in the Parish Hall, or speak to David Buckley for more information.  This is a wonderful way to assist with our ministry and to have a lot of fun while doing it!

How to receive Communion – This is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A gluten-free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Please assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the host on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.  All baptized persons are welcome to receive Communion.  If you are not baptized and would like a blessing, please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.

If you would like unction (anointing with oil and prayer for healing by the priest), please indicate this at the altar rail.  If you wish, members of the Order of St. Luke are also available (near the votive candles on the Gospel side of the church) to offer additional healing prayer after you have received communion.

Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.

Child Care is available for infants to age six from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.

Assistive listening devices and large print copies of the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal selections are available in the narthex.
