Announcements – August 16, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s. We are glad you have chosen to worship with us today! Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

Rally Day is Sunday, August 30thSt. George’s Christian Education classes for all ages resume Sunday, September 13, and Choir and Choristers resume rehearsals that week as well. We will kick-off the new program year with Rally Day on August 30 at 9:00 am in the Parish Hall.  We will enjoy a wonderful breakfast prepared and served by our youth, and we have carnival games for the kids! Come join us to enjoy food, fun, and your parish family.

Christian Education Programs begin September 13

If you have not registered your child for Sunday School this year, please do as soon as possible!  Register online at or ask Coordinator Mae Scott for a form. Are you interested in helping with Godly Play?

The curriculum makes teaching easy, and there are two teachers each week so volunteers only “work” every few weeks.  Please speak to Mae Scott for more information.

In the Rector’s Forum we will begin with an introduction to the New Testament, and then do a verse by verse study of the earliest Gospel – the Gospel of Mark. Bring your Bibles! (Fr. Dale prefers the NRSV.) The Lambeth Bible Study is a more experiential and meditative approach to scripture and is a second option for adults on Sunday mornings.

Our free Yoga Class will resume September 1st, and will now meet on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 pm in the parish hall.  Junior Warden Candi Hamill leads this beginning level class, and all parishioners are welcome. Please contact Candi at 479-739-4917 and let her know if you hope to attend so that she can plan accordingly.

St. George’s Choirs – Do you love to sing? Come join the choir! Choristers is for children in 2nd through 7th grade, with rehearsals on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.  The children learn to sing but also learn about St. George, the church, and how to read music.  The Adult Choir welcomes high school students and adults of all ages, and rehearses Wednesdays from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.  Both choirs resume rehearsals Wednesday, September 9th.   For more information, please speak to Director of Music Nancy Ypma.  As St. Augustine said, “Those who sing pray twice”!

School Supplies – Thank you for your generous donations of school supplies and cash for Franklin’s school children! The supplies and check were delivered to Franklin Neighborhood Community Association on Wednesday, August 12, and they were very happy to receive the items.  A complete list of your donations and a photo will appear in the next Dragon.  FNCA has also invited parishioners to volunteer this fall by helping children read or work with computers, or teach cooking, sewing/ knitting/crocheting, Weird Science, boys’ basketball, or arts & crafts.  They also need tutors for one hour on Monday afternoons at 3:15. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these or would like more information, please call FNCA at 618-233-1710.

How to receive Communion – We believe that this is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A gluten-free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Please assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons such as illness you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the host on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.

If you would like unction (anointing and healing prayer by the priest), please indicate this at the altar rail.  Members of the Order of St. Luke are available for additional prayer for those who wish.

Fundraising “rules” – Our parish family generously supports the fundraising efforts of our members for local schools, scouts, and other youth organizations.  Please remember, we ask that anyone who has a fundraising effort get approval from the Senior Warden, and then set up a table at coffee hour – please do not approach people individually!  Thank you.

Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.

Child Care is available for infants to age six from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.

Assistive listening devices and large print copies of the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal selections are available in the narthex.
