Announcements – May 10, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s.  We are glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

This is the Last Week of Sunday School Classes until Fall

Children and youth meet in the Chapel at 9:00 before moving to their classrooms.  Children age 3 through 5th grade use Godly Play; teens use Living the Good News.

The Rector’s Forum meets in the Parish Hall at 9:10. Today Jenna Maves will talk about her trip to England as part of Bishop Martins youth pilgrimage last summer. Everyone is welcome.

The Lambeth Bible Study, an experiential and meditative approach to scripture, meets in the Conference Room at 9:15 each Sunday.

Our Potluck Breakfast and Sunday School Celebration is next Sunday, May 17th.  Bring something to share and join us in the Parish Hall at 9:00 am for our end of year celebration.  Come show our students, teachers, and parents how much we appreciate them, and enjoy good food and the company of you parish family.

Annual Parish Picnic at Toddhall is Sunday, May 31

This year our annual event at Toddhall will be a few weeks earlier than in the past.  We will celebrate the Eucharist as usual at 8:00 at St. George’s and at Toddhall at 11:00 am, but this year the second service will be in the St. Cecelia Chapel, which will allow us to avoid walking up and down the long hill and on the uneven paving stones in the outdoor chapel.  And Nancy Ypma will be there to lead our hymns on the organ.

The picnic part of our day remains the same – we provide hamburgers, hotdogs, and drinks; you brings side dishes.  And bring your lawn chairs, baseball bats, soccer balls, hats and sunscreen!

Clean Up Day – Join us Saturday, May 23, to clean up the church yard. We’ll do some raking, some trimming, clean gutters and wash windows. Can you help? Please contact Junior Warden Candi Hamill or the church office if you will be here so we can plan accordingly.

St. George’s is responsible for mowing the church yard in May, July, and September. If you can help by volunteering to mow one (or more) weeks, please speak to Joe Hooten at 567-9693.

WEDG – The Women’s Ecumenical Dining Group will gather for dinner at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 28, at TGIFriday’s, 6910 North Illinois Street in Fairview Heights, 624-8443.  Reservations are a must, so please call the church office at 233-6320. Come for Good Fun, Good Food, and Good Conversation!!

Team Members Needed – The next Cursillo weekend is June 18–21 at Toddhall, and Cursillistas are needed to serve on the team.  Please contact Beth Graboritz at to volunteer or for more information.  Also, Cursillo now has a GoFundMe site to help offset the costs for Cursillo candidates – visit if you wish to make a donation.

FNCA provides Summer Day Camp for youth in the Franklin School District. Recreational, educational and life skill programs are offered, and a donation of $40 allows a child to participate in this six-week program. If you wish to donate, please make your check payable to St. George’s and note “Send a Kid to Camp” on the memo, or use the designated envelopes in the narthex.

St. Michael’s Youth Conference – A week of fun, friends and Christian growth, activities such as worship, prayer, and conference sessions help youth ages 13-19 to grow as Christians. The Conference takes place June 7-12, and leaders are Bishop Martins, Fr. Ian Wetmore, Fr. David Halt, and Fr. David Baumann.  Information and registration info is available in the narthex.

How to receive Communion – This is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A gluten-free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons such as illness you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the host on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, cross your arms over your chest.
