Announcements – February 1, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s. We are glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

Sunday School Classes for all Ages:

Children and youth gather in the Chapel at 9:00 am to sing and pray together before moving to their classrooms. Children age 3 through 5th grade use Godly Play, and our teens use Living the Good News.

The Rector’s Forum meets in the Parish Hall at 9:10. We are studying the Christian faith and life from an Anglican and Episcopalian point of view. Everyone is welcome!

The Lambeth Bible Study, an experiential and meditative approach to scripture, is a second choice for adults on Sunday mornings. This group meets in the Conference Room at 9:15 each week.

St. George’s White Chili – Pick up your chili today in the parish hall. Cost is $9 if you ordered in advance; walk-ins can buy chili at $10 a quart for as long as supplies last.  Proceeds benefit the Violence Prevention Center and Bethany Place.

2015 Parish Directory – We are about to print a new Directory, so please check the list in the Narthex to confirm that we have your name(s), address, telephone number(s), and email address(es) listed correctly.  Thank you!

Food Pantry  – Pick up something for our Pantry every time you go shopping. Canned meat, fruit and vegetables, and dry goods such as cereal and pasta, are always needed. Items often asked for but which we rarely have on hand include dish soap, laundry detergent, and peanut butter and jelly. You may bring donations to church on Sunday, or to the office during the week. Thank you!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper – Join your parish family for a pancake supper on Tuesday evening, February 17, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall.  There is no charge, but donations are gratefully accepted and will go to Beacon Ministries.

Ash Wednesday Services – The Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes will be offered at 9:30 am and 7:00 pm on February 18. These are joint services with St. Mark Lutheran Church.  If you wish, bring any palm leaves you may have to the church by February 15, and we will burn them.

Florence Martin Scholarships – Scholarships of $2000 are available for members of St. George’s who have a high school diploma or GED. The application and instructions are available on our website, or thru the church office. Deadline  is March 1.

St. George’s Community Service Commission is collecting items for the Violence Prevention Center, a temporary home for women and their children seeking shelter from abusive situations.  You can help by bringing any of the items below to the Canterbury Room between February 8th and March 1st, and we will get your donations to the shelter. Thank you. They need: Laundry baskets, Laundry detergent, Fabric softener, Bleach, Cleaning supplies, Face and body soap, Towels and Washcloths, Shampoo and Crème Rinse, Lotion, Personal Care Products, Deodorant, Baby Formula, Diapers (all sizes), Baby Wipes, Baby Shampoo, Baby Lotion, Onesies (Medium – Large), Children’s t-shirts and underwear (size 1-10), and Women’s and Children’s socks.

The new Forward Day by Day devotionals are available in the Narthex.

How to receive Communion – This is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth to consume, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A Gluten Free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons such as illness you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the wafer on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers from touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, cross your arms over your chest.

Child Care is available for infants to age six Sundays from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.

Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.
