Announcements – January 4, 2015

Welcome to St. George’s. We are glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after each service.

Sunday School Classes for all Ages:

Children and youth gather in the Chapel at 9:00 am before moving to their classrooms. Children age 3 through 5th grade use Godly Play, and our teens use Living the Good News.

The Rector’s Forum meets in the Parish Hall at 9:10. We are studying the Christian faith and life from an Anglican and Episcopalian point of view.  Everyone is welcome.

The Lambeth Bible Study, an experiential and meditative approach to scripture, resumes Sunday, January 11, in the Conference Room, beginning at 9:15 each Sunday morning.

Our Annual Meeting will take place Sunday, January 25.  We will provide lunch after the 10:30 service and then move into the church for the meeting. If you are interested in serving as a member of the Vestry or Toddhall Board or as a delegate, please speak to Brian Maves, Chuck Evans, or Michelle Ziegler.  If you are the chairperson or head of any commission, group or ministry at St. George’s, the deadline for your 2014 reports is January 15.

Order of St. Luke – Are you amazed or curious about God’s healing grace in response to prayer? You’re invited to attend the next meeting of the OSL at 6:30 pm on Monday, January 5, for presentations, discussion, and refreshments. For more information please contact Bob Vaughn at 624-1909.

“Undecorating” Day – Everyone is invited to join the Altar Guild at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 10, to help take down and put away all the Christmas decorations.  Many hands make light work!

Food Pantry Organization Meeting – Anyone who is interested in doing any small part to help our food pantry  is invited to a meeting on Sunday, January 11, at 4:00 pm to talk and organize.  We need volunteers for everything from picking up orders or stocking the shelves (hopefully on a rotating basis), to considering the food we currently provide our clients, to making sure schools, scouts, and other organizations know we are here and need their donations. Please come and help us reorganize!

Beginning January 7, the Wednesday Yoga class will meet from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in the Parish Hall.  This is a free class for beginners offered by parishioner Candi Hamill, and everyone is welcome.

The 2015 Flower Calendar and the Sanctuary Light schedule are posted in the Parish Hall. The cost to sponsor the flowers is $40, and the Sanctuary Light is $5. Sign up to sponsor the flowers or candle on a particular Sunday by printing your name on the date of your choice, and noting  the name and occasion of person or event you are honoring or remembering.

Super Bowl Sunday – St. George’s White Chili is back! Pick up your chili on Sunday, February 2, between 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm. Cost is $8 per quart if you order in advance (signup sheet in the Parish Hall or call the office) or $10 quart for walk-ins.  Tell your friends!

Florence Martin Scholarships –  The Vestry has funds to provide several scholarships of $2000 each for the 2014-15 school year for members of St. George’s who have a high school diploma or GED. The scholarship application and instructions are available on our website, or by contacting the church office. Deadline for completed applications to be in the church office is March 1.

If you would like unction (anointing and healing prayer by the priest), please indicate this at the altar rail.  Members of the Order of St. Luke are available for additional prayer for those who wish.

How to receive Communion – This is Christ’s Body and Blood. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands and raise it to your mouth to consume, or receive it directly on your tongue. (A Gluten Free host is available – let us know if you need this option.) Assist in guiding the Chalice to your lips. If for personal reasons such as illness you wish to receive by “intinction”, leave the wafer on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue. Do not intinct yourself – this prevents fingers from touching the wine. If you do not wish to receive the chalice, cross your arms over your chest.

Child Care is available for infants to age six Sundays from 9:00 – 11:45 am. The Nursery is at top of the stairs in the Sunday School Building.

Restrooms are on the lower level. The stairway is just off the entrance and an accessibility lift is located in the narthex.
