Announcements – August 24, 2014

The Annual Ministries Fair / Rally Day and Pot-Luck Breakfast is today!  Join us in the parish hall from 9:00 – 10:15 for a potluck breakfast and to learn about the many ministries at St. George’s – everything from how folks assist with our worship, to caring for our property, to supporting one another in prayer, to caring for the less fortunate in our community, and more! This is also an opportunity to register children for Sunday School and let them meet our teachers. Information and registration will also be available after the 10:30 service.

Rector’s Forum – This program year, beginning September 7, Father Dale will lead a class on Christian faith and life from an Anglican and Episcopalian point of view.  We will cover everything from Jesus as the center of our faith and his life and ministry to the Kingdom of God; the Apostolic Community and the Holy Spirit to the Church as a Sacrament of Christ; Church History (the early church and the Creeds, Middle Ages, Reformation, the English Church and the Anglican Communion) to the Book of Common Prayer and the Sacraments of the Church.

Coordinator Mae Scott and Sunday School Teachers will meet Sunday, August 31, after the 10:30 service in order to demonstrate Godly Play lessons, discuss our classroom changes, and plan for the year.  Teachers and any new persons interested in assisting with Sunday School should attend this important meeting!

Dee Zopp, who has led our Summer Forum, is prepared to lead a weekday study (Women of the Bible from A-Z, Abigail to Zipporah) on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 – 2:00. Please speak to Dee and let her know if you are interested in attending!

Volunteers Needed – The Bread Company is donating its unsold bakery items to our Food Pantry, which requires picking up the items each Saturday night at the downtown Belleville Bread Company. We have some wonderful volunteers who are helping with this, but we really need a few more so that each team/person only has to do this every other month or so. Can you help?  If you are interested or would like more information, please call the parish office. Thank you!

Church Grounds – Helpers are needed to mow, edge and trim the church lawn during October.  If you can help one week (or more!), please contact the Church Office with your name and phone number.

Apologies!  A computer user error occurred In last week’s prayer list, and the names of those with birthdays and anniversaries was incorrect, so this Sunday we are praying for everyone celebrating these milestones both last week and next. One of the dates missed was Tom & Marilyn Boschert’s 47th wedding anniversary, but luckily Bishop Salmon was here and able to give them a special blessing!

Receiving Communion – We believe this is Christ’s Body and Blood and  follow the traditional custom of receiving Holy Communion. Receive the consecrated wafer in your hands (right over the left) and raise it to your mouth to consume. Then assist the Chalice Bearer by gently guiding the Chalice to your lips. You may also receive the wafer directly on your tongue.  If for any personal reasons – such as upper respiratory illness – you wish to receive by “intinction”, please leave the wafer on your palm and the Chalice Bearer will pick it up, intinct and place it on your tongue.

All baptized persons are welcome to receive Communion.  If you are not baptized and would like a blessing, please indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest.

If you would like unction, anointing with oil and prayer for healing by the priest, please indicate this at the altar rail.  If you wish, members of the Order of St. Luke are also available (near the votive candles on the Gospel side of the church) to offer additional healing prayer after you have received communion.
