Announcements – March 30, 2014

March 30, 2014

Welcome to St. George’s! We are glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. Please sign our guest book and join us for refreshments and fellowship (adults and children) after each service.

The Lenten Adult Forum continues to explore “Aids for the Spiritual Life” Sunday mornings at 9:10 am in the parish hall. Join us today to hear Deacon Jody Coleman will discuss the centrality of the Eucharist in our spiritual lives.

April 6: Spiritual Direction — The Rev. Gwynne Schultz, a pastor in the United Church of Christ with nearly two decades’ experience in training spiritual directors, will discuss the value of spiritual companions in hearing God’s voice in our lives.

April 13: Study and the Renewing of Our Minds — Bishop Ed Salmon, retired bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, will explore the essential role of studying the Bible and other reliable spiritual writings in our faith development.

2014 Directory – We will be printing a new parish directory next week, so please check your contact info on the draft in the narthex and make any corrections.  If you wish to include your cell phone number please  note it on the draft.  If you’re not on the list, please forgive me and add your information. Thank you!

The SHINE Eucharist is moving to 6:00 pm on the first Saturday of every month, which means this week, April 5. Pastor Brian is the celebrant, and we use the Joy music book. Everyone is welcome.

Stations of the Cross – St. Mark Lutheran, St. Luke’s Roman Catholic, and St. George’s Episcopal churches join together to pray the Stations of the Cross at 12:10 pm each Friday in Lent.  This year we meet at St. Luke’s. Everyone is welcome.

Lenten Soup Supper Series– Join us in learning about the role of women in various religions traditions each Thursday evening  in Lent. We begin with a simple soup supper at 6:00 pm followed by the presentations at 7:00 pm. Please sign-up up to bring your favorite soup, breads or relishes – a sheet is posted in the parish hall. A freewill offering will be taken. Child care is provided during the presentations.

April 3: Didi Kafka, Women’s Roles and Ministry in Christian Orthodoxy

April 10: the Rev. Suzanne Wolfenbarger and Deacon Jody Coleman, Women’s Ministries in the Episcopal Church

The Philharmonic Society of Belleville, conducted by our own Robert Howard, presents “Choral Classics” this afternoon at 3:00 pm in the Lindenwood University Auditorium. The program includes Chichester Psalms, selections from Frostiana, and Liebeslieder Waltzes. Tickets are available at the door.

The Altar Guild welcomes any and all volunteers to help get our church spic & span for Holy Week and Easter. Please join us to assist with this project on Saturday, April 12, at 9:00 am.

Our parish family generously supports the fundraising efforts of local schools, scouts, and other youth organizations.  Just a reminder, we ask everyone who has a fundraising effort to get approval from the Senior Warden or vestry, and then – instead of approaching people individually – please set up a table at coffee hour.

If you would like to contribute toward our beautiful Easter Flowers, please make out your check (for any amount) to St. George’s and mark it “Easter Flowers”.  If your donation is in honor or memory of someone, please indicate the information clearly.  For those who prefer, envelopes for Easter Flowers are in the pews. Donations must be received by April 16 to be included in the bulletin.
