Announcements for August 25

“MINISTRIES FAIR” AND SUNDAY SCHOOL KICKOFF, 9AM AUG 25: This will be an opportunity for heads of a great many ministries, from Adult Choir and Children’s Choristers led by Music Director Nancy Ypma, to prayer shawl knitters, to the healing ministers of the Order of St. Luke, to those who along with folks from St. Mark Lutheran provide the area’s largest Food Pantry, to worship ministries, and fund raisers for the Franklin Jefferson neighborhood association, and supporters of active duty airmen and soldiers from Scott AFB, to come together, provide information and recruit new folks.
The big presentation will highlight our new Godly Play Sunday School format and curriculum. St. George’s has made a major change in our Sunday School under the enthusiastic leadership of Mae Scott to provide Godly Play and make our children’s Christian formation a priority.
There will also be sign ups for our Adult Formation classes. This fall two adult classes will provide a choice to hear about our various outreach efforts into the community, or study the last book of the Bible, “Revelation” with our Rector, Fr. Dale Coleman. This always controversial writing was the last to be included in the New Testament Canon, and is generally mis-read by many Christian preachers and readers today. It is an apocalyptic writing by a leader of the church in Asia Minor, who in 95AD offers hope to his beleaguered disciples suffering persecution. Fr. Coleman is an adjunct professor of New Testament, Worship and Church History at one of the Episcopal Church’s seminaries. He offers a verse by verse commentary on books of the Bible, along with their historical and pastoral context, with a knowledge of the Greek language in which the New Testament was written.
And finally, a new on-line study of St. Luke’s Gospel will be offered by Michelle Ziegler.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR SEPTEMBER 8 when Bishop Martins will be visiting. He will be baptizing and confirming those who have chosen to do so. Anyone interested in participating should contact Fr. Dale or Deacon Jody.

THE NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY IS HERE! Copies can be picked up at the Evangelism Ministry table during the Ministries Fair or in the Canterbury Room after the 10:30 Eucharist this morning.

THE NEXT SHINE PRAISE SERVICE is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2013 at 5 p.m. in the Chapel. Everyone is invited to participate!
