Announcements for January 27

AT THE ADULT FORUM, Fr. Dale continues in I Corinthians 11, in which Paul writes about appropriate and inappropriate hair styles and clothing to wear at public worship, as well as not abusing the Eucharist by turning it into a party! A few wealthy Christians were making the Eucharist their own special gathering centered on them and their feelings. Paul reminds the Corinthians that Jesus gave us the Eucharist as a sign of his giving of His very self for the world’s salvation. And Jesus’ very presence is given in the Eucharist.

ANNUAL MEETING IS TODAY following the 10:30 service and a light lunch. Updated biographies and the annual report are available this morning in the Canterbury Room. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

2012 GIVING STATEMENTS: If you have not yet picked up your 2012 Giving Statement, please do so this morning. They are on the small table in the Canterbury Room.

A 4TH DAY CURSILLO RETREAT will be sponsored here beginning at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 1 through noon on Saturday, February 2, 2013 and followed by a catered lunch. The cost is $20 (includes lunch) and registration forms are available in the office or on St. George’s bulletin board just inside the Parish Hall. Additional information is available on the form or by contacting Bob Vaughn.

THE ALTAR FLOWER CHART HAS THE FOLLOWING DATES AVAILABLE (if you’re interested in sponsoring a week, please sign up. The cost is $40 and you may sign up on the chart located on the round kiosk in the parish hall, or call the office):

ST. GEORGE’S NEWSLETTER will be distributed later this week. Please submit any articles or other information to the church office (by email: by the end of the day tomorrow, January 28 (Tuesday morning at the latest!).

WHITE CHILI IN FEBRUARY? Yes! St. George’s White Chili will be available for sale in quart carry out containers after both services on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3. Sales will continue until sold out or 3pm. There is an order sheet in the Canterbury room and the parish hall if you would like to pre-order. See Dave Buckley for more info.

THE WEDG (Women’s Ecumenical Dining Group) will be gathering at Rachel’s Garden, 3917 Frank Scott Parkway, 234-9355, at 11:30 am on February 5. Please call the church office, 233-6320, for reservations. Come for Good Fun, Good Food, and Good Conversation.

2013 FLORENCE MARTIN SCHOLARSHIPS: The requirements for scholarship applicants and the application are available on St. George’s web site: The application can be filled out online and then printed. All submissions must be enclosed in a sealed envelope and ostmarked no later than March 15, 2013.

ST. MARK YOUTH TRIVIA NIGHT: St. Mark’s Youth Group (TURTLEs) will host their annual trivia night on Saturday, March 2 in the Parish Hall. The cost is $10 per person for tables of 8. Doors open at 6:00 pm, trivia begins at 7:00 pm. Popcorn and soda provided and feel free to bring food or beverages of your own (although alcohol is discouraged). There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and cash prizes for the top two tables. Free babysitting also available! Reserve your table by contacting Diane Martens at 618-696-8613. Proceeds benefit the TURTLEs’ summer mission trip to Kansas City, Kansas.
