ANNUAL MEETING TODAY SUNDAY, JANUARY 29, 2012. Elections will be held for 3 Vestry members for a 3 year term; 5 Synod Delegates and 2 Deanery Delegates.  Nominees must be confirmed communicants in good standing.  Thus far seven nominations for Vestry and five Synod delegates have been received.  They are Vestry: Cathy Boehm, Tom Boschert, Chuck Evans, Dawn Jung, Brian Maves, George Schneider and Michelle Ziegler. Synod delegates are Marilynn Belleville, Chuck Evans, Cindy Lynk, Brian Maves and Michelle Ziegler.

MUSIC AND HEALING:  How composers confront the tragedies of our modern world will be the subject of the adult forum during January.  St. George’s Music Director and Organist, Nancy Ypma returns to lead the January adult forums, discussing composers of music that both confronts the atrocities of war and terrorism, and consoles the survivors and society.  Composers to be discussed include George Crumb, Steve Reich, John Adams, Olivier Messiaen and Arnold Schoenberg.  Join us each Sunday morning this month for great teaching, interesting discussion and fine fellowship.  The adult form meets at 9:15 in the Parish Hall.

ADULT FORUM IN FEBRUARY: Fr. Dale will teach on Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. It will be a verse by verse study, beginning with an introduction to Paul’s himself.

ASH WEDNESDAY:  February 22 we offer the Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at two times for this important day, which begins Lent.  At 9:30 am the worship will be a quiet service in the church.  At 7:00 pm we will worship jointly with St. Mark Lutheran and this Service will include hymns.
WEDG – All women 18 and up are invited to gather for the WEDG pre-Lenten dinner on Mon., Jan. 30 at Fletcher’s Kitchen and Tap at 6:30pm. Fletcher’s is located at 6101 West Main, Belleville. Please call the office for reservations (head count) at 233-6320. Come for good fun, good food, and good conversation

ST GEORGE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH FLORENCE MARTIN 2012 SCHOLARSHIP. January is a great time to begin planning to apply for the 2012 Florence Martin Scholarship.  This scholarship is open to members of St. George’s Church who will be students in college in the 2012/2013 school year at the undergraduate or graduate level. The “Requirements for Scholarship Applicants” as well as the “Florence Martin Scholarship Application” are available on the St. George’s web site https://stgeorges.wordpress.com.  The application can be filled in online and then printed.  The list of requirements has the information needed to submit a complete and acceptable application.   All submissions must be enclosed in a sealed envelope and postmarked no later than Mar.15, 2012. 
COMMUNITY SERVICE.  It’s that time of year again!  We are collecting for the Violence Prevention Center.

The following items are really needed:

Diapers – 28 lbs and up        Paper Towels

 Baby Shampoo                      Baby or Children’s Tylenol

Cough Syrup                          Wash Cloths

Twin Sheets                            Towels

There will be 2 baskets placed in the back of the church for the donated items.

A DRAFT COPY OF THE 2012 PARISH DIRECTORY is available on the table in the Canterbury Room and on the counter in the Parish Hall.  Please check to make sure the office has your correct address, phone number, e-mail, birthday and anniversary.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:  The food pantry is running low on items;   especially meat products, tuna fish, canned beans, hand soap, dishwashing detergent.  The next food drive is not until May.  Please pick up a few items, if possible, when you are at the store.

Financial Crisis Fund Update

January 22, 2012

Between Nov. 1, 2011 and Jan. 22, 2012 the Financial Crisis Fund (FCF) has interviewed 58 clients.  When you include family members that are represented, we have served 137 individuals.   We have provided the following assistance:

Rent $2100.00 (plus $300 dollars pledged pending landlord receipt)

Electric $1705.00

Water    $  328.00

Other    $   258.47

Total:   $ 4391.72

We have received generous donations from the congregations and outside agencies and congregations that total $8442.25.  At this time, the fund balance for FCF is $8730.38.

We have initiated a monthly newsletter to give to our clients that includes service times and other opportunities for worship and fellowship with our congregations to encourage those without a church home to join us.  The FCF has also received contributions of blankets, scarves and furniture that have been provided for clients as needed. 

We thank all of you for the blessing that you provide through your contributions and prayers and ask for your continued support.
