The Youth Department for the Diocese of Springfield invites you, the youth of our church, to consider attending the upcoming Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) this summer in St. Paul, MN, June 22 – 26, 2011.
EYE is held every three years, sponsored by the Episcopal Church. It is open to all youth in grades 9 – 12 in the 2010-2011 academic year. Youth who attend EYE come from all over the country. They spend their time building a Christian community to focus on the presence of Jesus Christ in their lives. The time at EYE is spent in worship, sharing, learning, praying, singing, and working. All of this is designed to help those who attend, both youth and adults, grow in their faith journey. You can find out more information on the EYE website, http://dfms.org/eye2011.htm.
The focus of the event this year is mission, based upon Matthew 10:40-42. “We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God’s messenger. Accepting someone’s help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I have called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t lose out on a thing.”
To put all of this into action though, we need to know if there are youth interested in attending the event. There will be a cost to attend, but there is time for fund raising to help defray the entire cost, and the Youth Dept. plans to take care of the travel costs.
If you think it sounds like something you might like to do, then please talk with Brian Maves, Dana Meyer, or Joe Hooten. We need to hear from you by February 25th so the Diocese can make a decision and start planning for the trip.
