Book Club meets Jan. 23
St. George’s Book Club will meet at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, in the Parish Hall, to discuss The Lace Makers of Glenmara by Heather Barbieri (2009). In the interests of truth in advertising, we should tell the gentlemen in the group that this is a novel about women (in case that’s not evident from the title). But the reviews suggest a poignant story of loss and rediscovery.
Join us for discussion. If you like, bring some snacks or a bottle of wine. Soda and coffee are always available. See you there!
Movie night Feb. 13
The next movie night at St. George’s will be Sunday, Feb. 13, when we’ll watch Cry, the Beloved Country, based on the 1948 novel by Alan Paton. Cry, the Beloved Country is a uniquely compelling narrative about sin, forgiveness and redemption, set in South Africa immediately before the institution of apartheid. Paton was a devout Christian, and his novel is filled with Biblical references. Three films have told this story; we’ll watch the 1995 version, starring James Earl Jones and Richard Harris.
We begin at 4:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Bring snacks and/or a bottle of wine if you like. Soda and coffee are always available. We’ll discuss the movie after viewing it. Please join
