SUNDAY SCHOOL BEGINS SEPT. 12 FOR ALL AGES. All children are welcome!  More details in September newsletter.

THE ADULT FORUM begins at 9:10 am in the Parish Hall on Sun., Sept. 12. Fr. Dale will lead a Study of Paul’s Letter to the Galatians beginning with an introduction to Paul’s life and mission. Please bring your Bible. Join us!

THE ALTAR FLOWERS are given today to the glory of God by Jim & Viv Gillispie in loving memory of Lawrence J. Zander and James D. Gillispie.

THE SANCTUARY LIGHT is lit today to the glory of God by Shari & David Welch in celebration of family’s blessings.

REMINDER:  Next Sunday, Sept. 5, is FOOD OR OTHER DONATIONS SUNDAY. Food can be placed in the Canterbury Room, and will be brought to the altar along with the communion bread and wine.

FAREWELL TO OUR PARISH SECRETARY, ROSELLE DERFLER who will be retiring on Aug. 31.  We are very grateful for her 12 years of service to the parish.  She will be greatly missed.

HOLY EUCHARIST AND HEALING SERVICE is in the chapel at 9:30 am celebrated every Wednesday.  EVENING PRAYER is read on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm in the church.  This quiet prayer service is led at present by Fr. Dale. (If you would like to lead this service or get trained to lead it on Wednesday evenings see Fr. Dale.)

AT THE DIOCESAN NOMINATING SYNOD HELD AUG. 7, three clergy were nominated to be Bishop of Springfield:  THE REV. MATTHEW GUNTER, THE REV. DANIEL MARTINS, and the REV. MARK STEVENSON. Election will take place Sept. 17-18.

The Standing Committee invites all members of the Diocesan Family to attend the walkabouts to have the opportunity to meet the Nominees.

The Dates and Venues for Walkabouts are:

  • Tuesday, August 31 – First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, IL
  • Wednesday, September 1 – St. John’s Episcopal Church, Decatur, IL
  • Thursday, September 2 – St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Alton, IL

All walkabouts are scheduled to commence at 6:30 p.m.

ST. GEORGE’S ALWAYS WELCOMES NEW VOICES IN OUR CHORAL PROGRAM! We invite you to get involved with our exceptional church choir.  The choir sings at the 10:30 am service on Sundays:  Sept.- May, and rehearses on Wed. at 7:30 pm beginning Sept. 1. Our Choristers Program for Youth is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music and rehearses on Wed. at 5:30 pm beginning Sept. 8. If interested contact Music Director, Nancy Ypma, after church or at 234-1947.

We’re always recruiting ACOLYTES, USHERS, LECTORS & ALTAR GUILD MEMBERS.  If you would like to become involved, please let Fr. Dale know of your interest!

ST GEORGE’S BOOK CLUB has been postponed to Sun., Sept. 26, at 4:30 pm in the Parish Hall. We have chosen Tatiana de Rosnay’s novel, Sarah’s Key, for next time. Sign-up sheet, to read a copy of the book purchased for the church library, is on the library table.
