Liturgy

Worship is at the core of our parish life. It’s where we gather as the people of God to give Him thanks and praise, to recommit ourselves to His service and to be strengthened to do the work He has given us to do. A long tradition of dedicated lay ministries continues today, providing support for our worship life. Please also see Spiritual Growth to learn more about addition program offerings.

St George’s is within the broad church tradition of the Episcopal church. We use Rite I during Lent and Rite II during the rest of the year.

Music: Music plays a key role in worship and the spiritual life at St. George’s. Together with preaching and sacraments, music binds us together, lifts our spirits, helps us go forth into the world rejoicing, and gives voice to our deepest yearnings. For information about our music ministries see the music tab above.

Acolytes: Acolytes comprise a youth ministry, augmented by adults, which assists the clergy during each of our worship services. Acolyte service is valuable training for young parishioners age 11 and older. See Tom Boschert at 222-9051.

Alter Guild:The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation and care of the altar for all liturgies on Sundays and during the week, in both the Church and the Chapel. The guild makes sure that vestments and communion dishes are properly maintained and that we observe the seasons of church year with the proper colors and decorations. See Duffy Walters at 236-0614 or dwalters@bspmlaw.com

Lecters and Chalice Bearers:This group of men and women assist in the worship service by reading scriptures and leading prayers. Some are chalice bearers, licensed yearly by the bishop, to assist in the administration of the Communion wine. Contact Cindy Lynk for more information

Ushers: Ushers are the all-important initial contact persons who welcome worshipers prior to the service. They distribute service bulletins, answer questions about the worship service, our facilities, and so forth, and generally make visitors and newcomers feel welcome. They also assist the priest and greeters after church with newcomers and visitors. See Nolan Haefner at 234-0097 or nojo45@aol.com if you would like to be an usher.

Greeters: Greeters act as hosts after the worship service. They welcome worshipers and answer visitors’/newcomers’ questions, introduce them to parishioners, and invite them to join the congregation for fellowship and refreshments after the service. Greeters also provide additional written information about St. George’s. Contact Robert Hall at 566-4310 or vhall5@aol.com to become a greeter.

New Member Ministry:The objective of this ministry is to provide an initial “friend” in the congregation that newcomers can turn to for answers to questions and more information about St. George’s. One of the lay new member ministers makes a first contact very shortly after a newcomer’s initial visit to extend the parish’s welcome, to answer questions, and very importantly to help the newcomer’s assimilation into St. George’s parish life. Contact Tom Boschert if you would like to help with this ministry.
