ADULT FORUM IN FEBRUARY- This Sunday, Fr. Dale will teach on Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, at the adult forum at 9:10 am. The prevalence of personality cults in a great many churches, especially mega churches, is not new. Paul wrote his first letter to the church at Corinth, to warn against this harmful phenomenon. St. George’s Adult Forum will study the first chapter this Sunday to find out about Paul’s views concerning preachers becoming celebrities and counter this with the meaning of the cross.

SHROVE TUESDAY – St. George’s Youth will be offering a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the Parish Hall.  There will be a free will offering.

ASH WEDNESDAY:  February 22 we offer the Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at two times for this important day, which begins Lent we will worship jointly with St. Mark Lutheran Church.  At 9:30 am the worship will be a quiet service in the church.  At 7:00 pm this Service will include hymns.

Series to explore history of religion in America

God in America, PBS’ acclaimed series about how religious faith has shaped America, will be the program for St. George’s Lenten soup supper gatherings this year, to be held every Thursday night beginning March 1 and continuing through March 29.

This presidential election year, in which Mormons, evangelicals, Roman Catholics and many others are all in the spotlight, seems an apt time to examine the ongoing role of religious belief in our nation’s common life.

The evening begins with a simple soup supper at 6 p.m. A free will offering will raise funds for local human services organizations. The program will follow at 6:45.

Plan to join us! — and if you like to make soup, please show off your best recipes for your fellow-parishioners! We will also need helpers to bring relishes and bread. There is a sign-up sheet downstairs on the parish hall kiosk.
